My weekend/Vacations
... was lovely. We had a couple of friends over from England. They were on "Holiday", and made their way to New York (stayed in Times Square), then on to Las Vegas (stayed at The Mirage), then to the Bay Area to see us for a couple of days and then they backtrack themselves and flew back to Las Vegas today for a couple more days, then back to NY for a couple more days, then back to England. How exhausting, but they've seen more than I have and I live in the U.S.! Our visiting girlfriend confided in me yesterday saying "I'm so sick of flying." I suppose variety and adventure is the spice of life, but my goodness a vacation to me is for relaxing and unplugging from my day-to-day anything. And email during vacation is just used to gloat to friends about what a wonderful time you're having on your vacation! My hubby also likes to "do" stuff while on vacation, and getaways. I can appreciate it while I'm "doing" it, it's just the effort to mentally prepare myself to"gear up" to do something is not what I look forward to while on vacation. I'm more the meandering type, taking what comes and appreciating "it" for what "it" is, when "it" comes to me. Hmm, maybe it's a guy thing? I think inherently many men equate a sense of self worth with what they have accomplished, and if they "do" stuff on vacation then it's been a successful vacation. How different those darling man creatures are! But I suppose it all depends on the kind of vacation one wants. Sometimes people need to nurture their sense of adventure, and so they would create an adventurous Holiday, like trekking through the glaciers in New Zealand.
I look forward to my next vacation, which has to happen before the end of April of next year. It can't be too spendy though, 'cause the Monster Kitchen is coming and the price is already above what we were "hoping" for, and we haven't even figured in the countertop yet! ;)
ta, 'til later...

Mel, I think it's just two types of vacationing people -- those who like adventure and those who like relaxation. I'm female and I like the adventurous vacations! There are plenty of fellas who would rather kick back on a beach for a week too. Let me know what your next vacation plans are!
Amy - Yeah, you're right. We don't have plans yet for our next vacation, but I saw an ariticle in Sunset Magazine covering a road trip in New Mexico which sounds very appealing to me. There's culture there that I'm interested in, namely Art and Mexican, not to mention the land itself, and I've known that even before I read that article. It just kind of put it at the forefront of my mind, and it's something that I think could be relatively inexpensive and adventurous. I'll just have to think like a teenager going on vacation again and lower my standards of luxury comfort in exchange for higher standards of adventure. I'm sure I won't be disappointed! ;)
Sounds exciting!!!
And if you choose cheap accomodations and meals, it extends that sense of adventure and it leaves you with more money to HAVE more adventures! And driving in Mexico ought to be a REAL adventure too. :)
